This baby blanket size tool shows the typical width and length of eight baby blanket types, in inches or centimeters. It runs in your browser, is free, and needs no sign-up. The chart covers lovey, small baby, cradle, preemie, stroller, receiving, swaddle and crib blankets. Pick a type and the page shows its size in both units, each guide’s own figures, and a line saying whether the guides agree. The figures come from two public bedding size guides and retail listings for muslin swaddles. Nothing is averaged. Where sources give a range, the page shows the lowest to highest figures. Sizes vary by maker, so check the listed dimensions on the exact product you plan to buy.

How to use the Baby Blanket Size Chart

  1. Open the “Baby blanket type” select and choose the blanket you are shopping for, such as Receiving blanket. The form starts on Receiving blanket.
  2. Open “Show sizes in” and choose inches (in) or centimeters (cm). The tables switch to that unit.
  3. Read “Size (range across the guides)”. It gives the selected type’s width × length in inches and in centimeters.
  4. Read “Each guide, width × length” to see what each guide lists on its own. Guides A and B are bedding size guides, and guide C is a set of retail listings for muslin swaddles.
  5. Read “How much the guides differ”. It says whether the guides give the same figures, or by how many inches the widths and lengths differ. When only one guide lists a size, it says there is nothing to compare it with.
  6. If a warning appears, read it. Types with one source get a single-source warning, and stroller blankets get a note that the guides give a range.
  7. Scroll to the table “Baby blanket sizes (width × length)”. It lists all eight types in the unit you picked.
  8. Open the table “The guides compared” to see where guides A, B and C come from.
  9. Want a quick start? The presets Receiving blanket, Swaddle blanket, Stroller blanket and Crib blanket fill in the type for you.
  10. Before you buy, compare the figures with the dimensions printed on the product page, because sizes vary by maker.

What baby blanket size should I choose?

The sources do not name one correct size. The chart gives the sizes the guides list for eight blanket types, so the right choice depends on the type you need and on the dimensions of the exact product you plan to buy.

Each type has a width and length in inches, and the page converts both to centimeters using 1 in = 2.54 cm exactly. Multiply the inches by 2.54 to check any figure yourself. For example, a 40 × 40 in receiving blanket is 101.6 × 101.6 cm, and a 45 × 60 in crib blanket is 114.3 × 152.4 cm. A 12 × 12 in lovey is 30.5 × 30.5 cm.

Use the line that compares the guides as a signal. When the guides match, it says so, for example “All 2 guides give the same figures for this size.” Lovey, receiving, crib and preemie blankets match across both bedding guides. Preemie is 18 × 24 in (45.7 × 61 cm) in both.

Where do the baby blanket figures come from, and do they differ?

The page does not average anything. Each row shows every guide’s own figures, followed by the range from the lowest to the highest figure any source gives. Guides A and B are two public bedding size guides. For the sizes both of them list, they give identical figures, so the page shows no disagreement there.

Cradle (14 × 30 in) and small baby (14 × 16 in) are listed by only one guide each, so there is nothing to compare them against, and the page warns that a single source lists them.

Stroller is the widest-ranging row. Both guides give 22–30 in wide by 30–36 in long, which is 55.9–76.2 cm by 76.2–91.4 cm. Stroller blanket sizes vary a lot, so treat the range as the honest answer rather than picking one number.

Swaddle blankets come only from guide C, retail listings for muslin swaddles, which give 47 × 47 in (119.4 × 119.4 cm). Neither bedding guide lists a swaddle size, so this row also has a single source. Other makers may sell swaddles in other sizes, so check the listing for the product you want.

In short, use the chart to learn what the guides list for each type, then treat the numbers as a starting point. A lovey, a stroller blanket and a crib blanket are very different sizes, and even within one type a maker can cut its product larger or smaller than the figures shown here.

Frequently asked questions

Is there one standard baby blanket size?

No single size is fixed across these sources. The chart lists eight types, and each has its own typical width and length.

Why does the stroller blanket size show a range?

Both bedding guides give a range for stroller blankets: 22–30 in wide and 30–36 in long. The page shows the lowest and highest figures, and it warns you that the guides give a range, so sizes vary a lot.

Why does the swaddle blanket have only one source?

Swaddle sizes come only from retail listings for muslin swaddles, which give 47 × 47 in. Neither bedding guide lists a swaddle size, and the page notes that this row has a single source.

Does this tool say whether a blanket is safe for sleep?

No. The page makes no safety claims. The page makes no statement about sleep safety. For safe sleep guidance, read the CPSC and AAP safe sleep information instead.

Do I need to convert between inches and centimeters myself?

No. Choose inches or centimeters under “Show sizes in” and the tables switch to that unit, while the result line shows both. The conversion uses 1 in = 2.54 cm exactly.

Does the tool show prices or where to buy?

No. The tool shows sizes only. It runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded, and no sign-up is needed.
