What a deck storage box does
We stock 13 deck storage boxes, and every one of them is built around the same job: keeping cushions, tools and pool kit dry and out of the way on a patio or deck. The category splits into two broad shapes. A chest or bench sits low and wide, so it doubles as a seat or a side surface. A tall cabinet stands upright, taking a smaller footprint against a wall or beside a door. Neither shape is better in the abstract; the choice follows the space you have and what you need to put inside. Measure the wall run first, then the depth you can spare, then decide which shape fits. A box that blocks a door swing or a drainpipe is a problem no capacity figure will solve.
Capacity, and why gallons mislead
Capacity is quoted in gallons, and the range in our stock runs from 30 gallons up to 160 gallons. Treat those figures as a rough ranking rather than a promise. A 75 gallon chest and a 75 gallon cabinet hold the same volume but not the same objects, because the internal shape differs. Cushions are bulky and awkward; a long, shallow chest takes them better than a tall, narrow cabinet. Tools and small bottles suit shelves and upright space. Work out what you are storing before you compare numbers. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one only when you have measured the gap it has to sit in. Oversized boxes are hard to move once loaded.
Materials in the range
Three of the 13 boxes are wood and one is rattan. The rest are resin or similar moulded plastic, which is the material most of the range uses. Wood suits a deck that already has timber in it, and it can be sanded and refinished over time. It also needs more looking after, and it is heavier to shift. Rattan, including the poly rattan used here, gives a woven look that sits well with garden furniture, and it is generally lighter than solid wood. Moulded resin is the practical default: it shrugs off rain, wipes clean and does not need annual treatment. Match the material to how much maintenance you are willing to do, not just to how it looks on day one.
Lockable lids and what they cover
Six of the 13 boxes have a lockable lid. That is a useful feature if the box holds anything you would rather not leave open to passing hands, or if you want a delivery box that stays shut in wind. A lockable lid is not a safe. It deters casual opening; it does not stop a determined person with tools. Check what the lock actually is before you buy, because some lids take a padlock you supply and others have a built-in catch. If the box is mainly for cushions, a plain lid is usually enough. If it is for parcels or power tools, the lockable versions are the ones to look at first.
What is in stock right now
The current range is 13 deck storage boxes. By material, three are wood, one is rattan and the remaining nine are resin or similar moulded plastic. By feature, all 13 offer storage and six have a lockable lid. Prices run from $28.42 to $216.24 across the range. The 13 count refers to the matched deck storage boxes in this guide, not to every outdoor storage item we carry. Sizes quoted in the listings include 30, 39, 75, 85, 100 and 160 gallons, plus two cabinets listed by dimensions rather than capacity. Stock changes, so confirm the current listing before you order.
Dimensions and the two cabinets
Only two of the 13 products carry published dimensions in our data, and both are cabinets rather than chests. One measures 38.2 by 14.6 by 33.5 inches. The other measures 23.2 by 15.7 by 70.9 inches. The first is a low, wide unit; the second is tall and narrow, which suits a slim gap beside a door or at the end of a run of furniture. For the other 11 products, the listing gives capacity in gallons but not a full set of measurements, so check the individual product page before you commit. Do not assume a gallon figure tells you the height. A 100 gallon chest and a 100 gallon cabinet can differ sharply in every direction.
Weather resistance and placement
Weather resistance is claimed across the range in different words: waterproof, weather-resistant, weather-fighting. These are not the same claim, and none of them means the box can be left in standing water. Put any box on a hard, level surface rather than directly on soil or grass, and keep it clear of the drip line from a roof or gutter. A slight fall on the surface beneath helps water run away. If the box sits in full sun, expect the colour to shift over the years whatever the material. If it sits under trees, expect to clear leaves from the lid and the seams. Placement does as much for how long a box lasts as the material it is made from.
Limits of this guide
Two products described in the same words can still differ. A listing that says lockable, waterproof and weather-resistant may describe a box with a padlock loop and a box with a built-in catch, or a box with a sealed lid and one with a simple overlap. The individual product page governs. Where this guide gives a count, a material mix or a price range, it reflects the matched products at the time of writing, and stock moves. Where it gives general advice about measuring, siting or capacity, that advice is about the category, not about any single box. Read the product page for the specifics before you buy.
