Measure the wall run first

Before you compare racks, measure the space you intend to use. For a cabinet or drawer rack, measure the internal width, depth and height of the space with the door closed. Read it before you order, and check the stated dimension against your own measurements. If a figure is missing from the product page, treat it as unknown rather than assuming a value.

Plan for cleaning and refilling

A spice rack is only useful if you can reach the jars. Pull-out and drawer racks keep jars visible and let you take one out without moving the rest. Stackable and foldable racks can be rearranged as your collection changes. Wall and door racks free up worktop space but put jars at eye level or above, which suits short jars better than tall ones. Magnetic racks keep jars within arm's reach of the hob. Whichever you choose, leave a gap between the rack and any heat source, and wipe the rack when you wipe the worktop. Refill jars in place if the rack allows it; otherwise take the rack out, refill it and put it back.
